TV Spectrum tender in Q2
The government plans to auction the frequency bands freed after the introduction of DTT services in Q2, 2011 and expects to raise between EUR 1.5 and 2 billion from the sale.
The news was released by the Spanish minister of industry, tourism and commerce, Miguel Sebastian, at the inauguration of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. As well as the spectrum freed by the introduction of DTT, the additional re-arrangement of GSM frequencies brings the total spectrum available for auction to 310 MHz, according to Telecompaper.
Around 10 percent of this spectrum will be awarded by a beauty contest, while 90 percent will be auctioned to the highest bidder.
