Government HD proposals soon

The government is expected to present proposals on how HD services are to be implemented on the DTT platform to the Consejo Asesor de Telecomunicaciones y Sociedad (CATSI) on 17 June.
The proposals are expected to include a mandate that all TV sets over 21 inches will be required to have an MPEG-4 (H.264, AVC) decoder and tuner to allow for HD reception, of programmes expected to begin in April 2010. The proposals are also likely to say the broadcasters can launch HD/DTT services in April 2010.
Should government’s proposal be approved by CATSI, a Royal Decree enacting the proposal could be signed on 1 July.
