Freed spectrum reserved for broadcasters

The Ministry of Industry has revealed that it is unlikely that the spectrum freed by the switch to digital TV will be available for non-broadcast services following analogue switch-off.
According to Francisco Ros, General Secretary for Telecommunications, the frequencies made available from the analogue switch-off will be needed to provide television services, for regional, local and new broadcasters.
This means that there are not enough frequencies available to be released to telecom operators.
Spanish law requires that all existing analogue television services receive a DTT licence. In many cases these broadcasters have been allocated two digital service slots.
