Analogue switch of ramps up
By December 31st 2009, 32% of the population will need to be watching TV from the DTT platform as their analogue services will already have been progressively switched off, according to figures from ImpulsaTDT.
At the end of 2009 Impulsa estimates that 14.5 million people will have access to a terrestrial digital TV service only.
The first main cities making the switch to DTT are Zarazona, Oviedo, Segovia, Vitoria, Huelva and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
By the end of July 2009, 1278 towns will have made the switch to DTT, many in the region of Castilla y Léon, over 100 in Andalucia, Aragón and Castilla-La Mancha as well as many other towns in the rest of the regions.
Rapid TV News reports that recent figures indicate that more than 6 million receivers have been sold and DTV viewing has 11.5% of the market.
