Pay-TV on the DTT platform

Spanish TV networks are considering launching pay-TV services on the free-to-air digital terrestrial platform following the Italy’s example.
Technical trials have been taking place in Extremadura, west of Spain, to gain knowledge on what types of content consumers would be interested in.
La Sexta, through production company Mediapro, and DTT operators Net TV and Veo TV are said to be the most enthusiastic to launch Pay-TV services.
Mediapro may also offer football on pay-per-view through the DTT platform.
Francisco Ros, State Secretary of Telecommunications said that “Currently, according to the law, it is not possible to launch pay DTT channels in Spain, but if the sector makes the request, we will study it because we do not want to limit the development of this technology, above all when technically it is possible”
