DTT in the Ukraine

Details of plans to launch a DTT service in the Ukraine are emerging according to reports from Broadband TV News. Local sources say that, it has already been decided that the country will employ both MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 compression on national multiplexes three and two national respectively. A further two will be allocated to HD and one to DVB-H services. Although the process of channel allocation has already begun, it is widely felt that the planned May 2009 launch date for the service is unrealistic and will be delayed.
