tru2way threatening STB sales?

A new report from IMS Research examines the prospects for the set-top box (STB) as shipments of integrated digital TVs (iDTVs) continue to grow. The availability of iDTVs with tru2way on board is likely to be a key factor in this regard, offering the same interactive possiblities on the TV set as in the STB for viewers in the US and Korean cable markets. Previously known as OCAP, tru2way is the GEM-based interactive middleware developed by CableLabs for use in the North American cable market.

Whilst STB shipments continue to be strong at the moment, sales of iDTVs are set to grow from 52 million in 2007 to 143 million in 2013. Manufacturers, including Sony, LG, Samsung and Funai, have signed up to deliver tru2way certified iDTVs, making them an even more attractive prospect for the consumer.
