New version of AVC guidelines published

ETSI has published TS 101 154 V2.5.1, the latest revision of DVB’s guidelines for the use of video and audio coding in broadcast and broadband applications. The most significant change for this revision is the addition of DTS-UHD as an audio codec.

TS 101 154 is one of the core DVB specifications. It provides implementation guidelines for the use of video and audio coding in satellite, cable and terrestrial broadcasting systems and also covers broadband applications. The specification covers the first and second phases of the DVB UHDTV specification, as well as DVB Next Generation Audio specifications.

DTS-UHD is a compressed audio delivery system that supports channel-based audio, object-based audio and High Order Ambisonics. A new clause in the DVB coding guidelines provides detailed information on its use in DVB services. It joins MPEG-H Audio and AC-4 as one of three Next Generation Audio systems included in the guidelines.
