Ministers approve Draft Audiovisual Law

The Spanish governments’ Council of Ministers, has approved a draft of the audiovisual law and it can now be sent to the Parliament for approval.
The new law lays down rules to regulate the broadcast industry some of which are specific to the DTT platform. In particular new rules regulate the use of conditional access for the Pay DTT platform and also allow broadcasters to use 50% of their services for Pay TV broadcasting.
The draft law proposes regulations for HDTV, interactive services as well as mobile TV and changes the broadcast licence term from 10 to 15 years, after which time they will be automatically renewable.
