DVB-T official launch on 14th September 2011

Autoridad Nacional de los Servicios Públicos (ASEP) the country’s national public service authority was set to officially start the transition to digital terrestrial TV broadcasting on the 14th September.
On this day ruling 4705 set out the assignment of digital frequencies to those licensees who had met all necessary requirements.
Previously state owned SERTV and others had been carrying out experimental digital TV trials which led Panama to adopt DVB-T as its standard for the delivery of digital terrestrial television.
The transition process is expected to take 10 years and according to Alkin Saucedo, Sub-Director of National Public Services Authority Radio and Television and the DTT project will be carried out in four stages. The first stage will include the cities of Panama and Colón; the second includes the central provinces; the third the provinces of Chiriquí and Bocas del Toro; and the fourth stage includes the province of Darién
