DVB-T2/T tests in Kazakhstan
JSC Kazteleradio with the assistance of Harris Corporation, have conducted comparison tests using both DVB-T and DVB-T2 in Karaganda, Kazakhstan. Both the bit rate and field strengths were measured and proved that DVB-T2 was superior to DVB-T.
For the tests Harris supplied a 1,000 watt air cooled Maxiva transmitter on channel 49 driven by an M2X exciter.
"These tests underscore the Maxiva transmitter's powerful ability to broadcast DVB-T2 and MPEG-4 for SD and HD content," said Alain Pecot, vice president for transmitter sales in Europe and Africa. "The resulting data will be extremely helpful to the team planning JSC Kazteleradio's transition to DTV."

The DTT future in Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan’s state broadcaster is “digital ready” and preparing to switch from analogue to digital broadcasting in 2015 according to Sakhariyanov Kanat, the first Deputy Chairman of Khabar Agency (KA), Kazakhstan’s state broadcaster.
In an interview with ABU News, he said KA currently had a digital studio and had bought seven high definition cameras for its digital production early this year.
“Currently we are producing 65 percent of the total content. But we intend to add a few more channels and increase our in-house production as soon as we go digital completely.”
Going digital would also solve certain problems in broadcasting, for example, KA would no longer have to air commentaries in Russian and Kazakh languages intermittently during sporting events, Mr Sakhariyanov said.
KA would probably go into the digital transmission test phase in 2013, he added.
“To increase cultural programming is one of our objectives. With the arrival of digital technology at our station, we are able to achieve this more easily by expanding to more channels as well as having richer content.”

DVB-T2 pilot planned for Kazakhstan
TeamCast, based in Rennes (France) is to provide help and equipment for a DVB-T2 trial in the Kazakhstan city of Karaganda, together with the media operator AO Kazteleradio and V-LUX too.
With TeamCast’s proven equipment deployed for DVB-T2, V-LUX will be able to make all the in-field performance tests needed for this important trial, using this second generation terrestrial standard.
DVB-T2 has a greatly improved performance over other terrestrial delivery specifications and is already being trialled in The Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany and the Ukraine with services being deployed in Finland Italy and the UK.
“We are very proud that the Republic of Kazakhstan has confidence in us for this critical On Air trial”, declared Serge Mal, Executive Vice-President and General Manager at TeamCast.
